A spune minciuni ca un preşedinte

For now, our point of departure must be to recognize that we presently operate under an unstated assumption that a certain amount of lying to the public by our presidents and other politicians has become a given in U.S. politics. In this context, the substantive issue becomes which kinds of lies are forgivable—or even admirable—and which lies are not.

- Eric Alterman, When Presidents Lie

Confucius considera că cel mai important lucru în cadrul statului este ca minciuna şi ambiguitatea să fie evitate. Rectificarea limbii era primul lucru pe lista Maestrului numit să administreze ţinutul Wei.

If language is not correct, then what is said is not what is meant; if what is said is not what is meant, then what must be done remains undone; if this remains undone, morals and art will deteriorate; if justice goes astray, the people will stand about in helpless confusion. Hence there must be no arbitrariness in what is said. This matters above everything.

- Confucius, The Analects of Confucius, Book 13, Verse 3
